Apart from Breakaway, four more Indian films will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival

Finally some good news for Team Mausam. The Shahid Kapoor-Sonam Kapoor starrer will be showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival as a special presentation. As will the Akshay Kumar-produced hockey film, Breakaway. This comes as a relief to the makers and fans of Mausam, who were disappointed when their plans to launch the film?s music in London had to be cancelled due to the riots that rocked that city last week. Two more B-towners who will represent the country in Canada are, not surprisingly, Anurag Kashyap and Naseeruddin Shah. Their film, Michael, tells the story of an ex-cop who has to tackle goons from his past and protect his son while dealing with impending blindness. But B-towners are not the only ones who are making the country proud. Bengali film Chhatrak (Mushrooms), which garnered critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival, will also be screened at TIFF. And so will the Tamil film Azhagarsaminin Kuthirai (Azhagarsami?s Horse), which tells the story of, well, Azhagarsami, who postpones his marriage when his horse disappears. It?s great that Bollywood is going to TIFF, but we just hope it doesn?t turn into a fiasco like the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where B-town celebs including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Minissha Lamba failed to impress. With powerful cinema from both the Tamil and Bengali film industries being showcased too, we have a better chance of making a good impression. Fingers crossed.
