Shah Rukh feels IPL owners should be on the board

Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan feels it would be good if Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners are included in the Governing Council of the T20 event with the number of issues confronting the cash-rich tournament over the years.

"Last year and this year there have been a lot of unforeseen issues in the IPL and they have been slowly rising. We all franchise owners have to be active participants and it would be better to be on the board (Governing Council)," Shah Rukh said here at the launch of KKR's new logo and clothing for IPL5, commencing in the first week of April.

"The BCCI is run by a lot of cricketing and thoughtful minds. We are given forums to discuss issues with the BCCI," he added.

The actor was answering a specific query over the current spat between the board and the Sahara Group on various issues, which has resulted in the Pune Warriors franchise owners announcing their intention to pull out of the T20 event if their grievances are not addressed.

Shah Rukh also debunked the commonly held perception that the rules of the game were changed for the benefit of Mumbai Indians in the Champions T20 League, when they were allowed to field one extra foreign player in the tournament.

"These are two different leagues, the IPL and the Champions T20. The rules are also different. The same 15 players are only eligible to play in this tournament who were part of the previous IPL.

"There were so many injuries of Indian players (in MI) and there has been a clause in the Champions League that you can play an extra foreign player till the injured Indian player recovered. It was part of the Champions League rules," he explained.

At the same time Shah Rukh said that IPL was a very good property and the perceived dip in its popularity in the fourth season last year was not correct.
"All such leagues in India would be confronted with issues as they are a new concept. But these leagues are needed not only in cricket but also in other sports such as soccer, hockey, badminton... IPL is a very good property.

"It's too early to say the passion and viewership for IPL is down. All things popular will have controversies. Slowly it has settled down and will get forward. We should resist the temptation to write it off. Let's not jump the gun," he said.

Shah Rukh also said that last year was the start of a new dawn for his team, which struggled in the first three seasons of the tournament.

"It has been a long journey for us over the last four years. We were not up to the mark till last year. Last year (when KKR made the top four for the first time) was the beginning of a new beginning.

"We have a new coach in Trevor Bayliss now. (Previous coach) Dav Whatmore was fantastic but he has other commitments. We have a commitment to get young boys in the team. We have one such youngster in West Indian Sunil Narine who will form a good bowling combination with Iqbal (Abdullah) and (Bangladesh's) Shakib (ul-Hasan)," said the actor.

Co-owner and Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla also expressed optimism that the team will do well this year.

"We will fly and we will be on top this year," she said while praising the changes made by CEO Venky Mysore for "the upswing".

"Venky took the team along and motivated them. He also made all the important changes and KKR was on a complete upswing," she remarked.

Juhi preferred pink for KKR, says SRK

Looks like, Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla have mended fences and no longer want to bring misunderstandings in their long beautiful association. The duo looked extremely comfortable with each other recently at the launch of the new look of Kolkata Knight Riders.

In fact, SRK, Juhi like always were at their jovial best and left no stone unturned to pull each other?s legs. While SRK teased Juhi about coming up with the idea of pink colour for KKR team as soon as Juhi entered the venue, on the other hand, Juhi taunted on Shah Rukh punctuality as she reached much later than SRK who was on time for a change.

But, Juhi had a upper hand as she continued to mock SRK by claiming that she always guides him to behave and dress up for important occasions.

On that note, we wish the lovely friends a wonderful relationship ahead too.

Esha Deol engaged!

Well the movie actress thing didn't work out, nor was she interested in doing the dance thing full-time. Her folks put a stop to her partying and coke-snorting ways and made sure Zayed Khan stayed out of the picture, so what's a pretty star-kid to do? Why, get hitched to a reasonably wealthy fella and ride into the arranged love marriage sunset, of course! Oh but don't worry Esha and Zayed will always be each other's dope dealers lobsters. ;-)

Hema Malini and Dharmendra's eldest failed seed got engaged yesterday to Bharat Takhtani, a Bandra-based professional. Apparently the two have been strategically been seen together dating on and off for the past year and a half or so. Dating...rrrrrrright.....

Esha, nevertheless, looked beautiful for her engagement day. Hema Malini's expression just exudes shame and disappointment joy and happiness, oh and Daddy D was around somewhere too.  Pics follow:

Jha wants Kat for his next film

Katrina Kaif owes a lot to Prakash Jha. It was Jha?s Rajneeti that first portrayed her as a serious actress, someone who?s more than just a pretty face and a glam doll image. But for all the courage that Jha showed in trusting Kat with such a key role, he was rather put off by her. The creative differences the two had while filming Rajneeti meant he left Kat out of his next venture Aarakshan.

But sources close to the director say he?s trying to make amends again, and is very keen to bury the hatchet with Kat. In fact, the buzz is that Jha is even writing a script specifically for Kat to try and entice the actress to sign his film. ?Prakash sir has written a script keeping Katrina in mind. She is just apt for the role. We?ll be meeting her very soon to offer her the film,? says a reliable source.

Maybe it was the indifferent form Aarakshan suffered that made Jha revert to Kat, or maybe it?s the Katrina Kaif brand name which has since shot up that did the trick. But it?s the Chikni Chameli chick who?s atop his list for now. Having said that though, he might have to wait a tad longer. Katrina, who?s currently in Cuba shooting for Ek Tha Tiger, has quite a packed schedule ahead of her. ?Katrina?s dates are full. After Ek Tha Tiger comes Yashji?s film opposite Shah Rukh Khan and there?s Dhoom 3 as well. Then there are reports she might accommodate Kamal Hassan?s film into this. All of which leaves very little time for Prakash Jha,? says a source close to Kat.

Salman Khan changes the script of Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger

Salman Khan, who is known to do films on his own terms is now making Ek Tha Tiger director Kabir Khan to change his script to suit the style of the superstar.

The reason for the success of Salman Khan's previous films ? Dabangg, Ready, Wanted and Bodyguard is said to be the creative inputs from the actor himself.

Director Kabir Khan is known to work on extremely tight script. In one of the sequence in Ek Tha Tiger, Salman Khan was supposed to chase a group of villains and beat them up. However, when Salman was narrated the scene, he reportedly told Kabir that the scene would have to change since his fans would not like to see him chasing the bad guys. Instead, Salman Khan suggested that the villains should come after him and he should then thrash them up!

If sources are to be believed, Kabir Khan was so tired of trying to explain to the actor that he finally gave up. The scene was later rewritten and the scene came out perfectly well.

The incident took place at 3.15 pm in the high security zone [my ass!] near the Prime Minister residence at 7-Race Course Road.

Deepika answers Race 2 debacle!

With Ramesh Taurani telling anyone who will hear him about how Deepika Padukone screwed him over left him and his film high and dry, finally we hear Deepika's side of the story:
You have managed to upset the mild-mannered Taurani...
I have tremendous respect for Rameshji and that was never my intention. I feel very bad about opting out of the film, but I have no other option. It was a very hard decision, but I had to make it as the dates kept going back and forth and I have other commitments too that I have to live up to.

Are you aware that he has filed a complaint against you?
Yes. They have asked me for my comments and I will be sending the same shortly.
He alleges that you left the film after the shooting began?
The film has been delayed for one-and-a-half years. I adjusted my dates all this time. And I would still do it, but now those dates are committed to other films. It's a genuine problem. I wasted four months last year that I had kept aside for this film, but now my other films are starting and I can't adjust more.

How could you allot the same dates to different producers?
I haven't. My contract [ A ha! So there was a contract...] with TIPS was till 2011. I still wanted to do 'Race 2' despite the delay, but now my dates are clashing with other films. And much as I want to, there is nothing I can do about it.

Like the Rajinikanth film?
That film was signed long ago. They just chose to make the announcement now. [Bullsh*t!]

Taurani says you refused to even meet him...
I never refused to meet him. I was not in the country, [translation: I had a booty call to answer in LA] so I suggested he meet my managers. That day, I landed at 7am, and I had to shoot for the climax of "Cocktail" at 9am, and I told him that I would meet him after the shoot. But he came over on the sets and I explained my reasons for not being able to do the film.

Also, you agreed to do the film almost two years ago. A lot has changed since. From the styling that was planned, to the kind of films you would want to do at this stage, right?
You know, it is a fantastic role. And I think that any actress would be lucky to do it.

Hasn't a lot changed in the film in the interim? Sanjay Dutt [thanks to Ameesha Patel] and Bipasha Basu have joined the cast when there was no place for them in the original script...
Even I have read about this in the papers. I wasn't told officially.
