Will things change for Ranbir after 'Rockstar'?
Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Rockstar' is the latest money spinner at the box office and the film has received mixed reviews but one thing that is common in all the criticism is the praise for Kapoor's acting.
Social networking sites are abuzz with speculations that whether Ranbir will get a Filmfare for his portrayal of Janardhan Jakhar or not.
Common movie goers and critics are in agreement over the excellence of Ranbir's performance in 'Rockstar'.
All these opinions lead to a supposition that the second rung actors of the Hindi film industry have got their leading man.
Shahid Kapoor had become the centre of imagination when 'Mausam' had released earlier this year. The character of Harinder 'Harry' Singh was not tailor made for Shahid Kapoor, neither was he seen in any such role before but Shahid carried the role with grace and gravity. At that time, Kapoor looked as the next big thing in Bollywood but Ranbir Kapoor's performance has surpassed any other presentation.
Hrithik Roshan has entered into the list of superstars by now but he has still not flaunted his complete range as actor. 'Jodha Akbar', 'Lakshya', and 'Guzaarish' have established Roshan as a capable performer but only after 11 years of 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai'. His early career was devoid of any noticeable experimentation but slowly and steadily Roshan has emerged as a complete package.
On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor who is just 29 has shown a flair for good roles rather than the hit quotient of a role. His filmography can boast of at least 3 'different' roles which is a good feat to achieve in such a small career.
The mighty Khans along with Kumar and Devgn don't appear to leave the top slots in recent times and Roshan is the foremost runner for the top slot in case it becomes vacant but Ranbir Kapoor has pressed an alarming bell for all the aspirants.
Ranbir Kapoor doesn't need any better background and the family tree provides him the natural acceptance among the spectators. He seems to understand the changing trend of Hindi cinema and probably that's why he is not afraid of experimentation.
The future of Bollywood is likely to belong to those directors who don't follow the existing norms. This era is different than late 70s or 80s when a massive hit meant a string of similar films. Manmohan Desai had produced four superhit films in the same year with identical theme of separated brothers.
The time has changed and Ranbir appears to keep pace with the time.
Ranbir is playing a deaf character in Anurag Basu's upcoming film 'Barfee' which suggests that the endeavour of the actor to size up his own potential is going to continue.
This courageous attitude makes Ranbir Kapoor an interesting actor to watch in future. He has passed the test with flying colours in 'Rockstar' and thus the expectation has soared higher. Ranbir needs to work hard to keep the newly found fan base intact but he will also need directors who can offer him challenging roles.
